Answers to the common questions are below. If yours is not there, use the contact form at the bottom of this page, or Send Feedback in the app's Settings tab.

Getting started

How do I get started?

Open IronLog and the setup walks you through your first machine: choose its type, give it a name, enter the engine hours, and pick the maintenance tasks you want to track. IronLog suggests a starting list of tasks and intervals for that type of equipment. You can change any interval, or add your own tasks, later.

IronLog needs an IronLog Pro subscription, and you choose a plan at the end of setup.

What equipment can I track?

Tractors, skid steers, excavators, wheel loaders, backhoes, dozers, combines, telehandlers, forklifts, generators and heavy trucks, plus an Other type for anything that is not on that list. Each machine can have more than one engine, and each engine keeps its own hours.

How do I update engine hours?

Open the machine and tap Update on the engine's card, then enter the reading from the hour meter.

A task with an hour interval counts from the hours recorded the last time you logged that service, so log the most recent service for each task to start its count.

How do I log a service?

Open the machine, tap the ••• menu and choose Log a service. Pick the task, the date and the hours, then add the cost, parts, who did the work, the location and notes. Add up to six photos, such as the receipt or the old filter, by taking them with the camera or choosing them from your library. The Timeline tab lists every service across all of your equipment.

Does IronLog remind me when maintenance is due?

Yes, for anything with a date. Turn on reminders during setup, or with Maintenance reminders in the Settings tab, and allow notifications. For a task with a calendar interval, such as every 12 months, IronLog reminds you a few days before it is due and on the due date, then once a week while it is overdue.

Renewal dates get reminders 30 days and 1 day ahead: a machine's registration and title dates, an engine's warranty date, and any document with an expiration date, such as an insurance card.

Hour intervals do not send notifications, because IronLog cannot know when you will run the machine. The Maintenance tab shows how close every task is, by hours and by date, and marks anything overdue. Reminders are scheduled on this iPhone; no server is involved.

Can I keep documents like the manual, registration or insurance?

Yes. Open the machine and, under Documents, tap Attach a document to add a PDF or an image. Choose a type (owner's manual, inspection report, insurance, registration, title, receipt, warranty or other), and turn on Track expiration to add an expiry date that IronLog can remind you about.

How do I export a service history PDF?

Open the machine, tap the ••• menu and choose Export service history PDF. Preview the report, then use the share button to save it to Files, print it, or send it to a buyer or mechanic.

The report lists the machine's details, its engines and hours, and every service record with its date, hours, cost, parts and notes, plus the total spent. It shows what you entered in IronLog. It is not an inspection, an appraisal or a warranty record.

Does IronLog work on iPad, Mac or Android?

IronLog is built for iPhone. There is no Android or web version, and records do not sync between devices in this version.

Backups and export

Where are my records stored?

On your iPhone, inside IronLog. There is no IronLog account and no IronLog server that holds your equipment records, and IronLog does not sync to iCloud in this version.

If your iPhone uses iCloud Backup, Apple includes IronLog's data in that device backup, as it does for most apps. Otherwise, if you delete the app or lose the phone without a backup, the records cannot be recovered, by you or by us.

How do I back up my records or move them to a new iPhone?

In the Settings tab, under Data, tap Export data. IronLog creates one backup file with all of your equipment, engines, hours, maintenance tasks, service records, photos and documents. Save it to Files, AirDrop it, or email it to yourself.

On the new iPhone, install IronLog, restore your subscription, then go to Settings, Data, Import data and choose the file. Merge with current data keeps what is already there and adds the backup. Replace everything deletes the current records first, then restores the backup.

Can I open the backup in a spreadsheet?

The backup is a JSON file made for importing back into IronLog. It is readable text, so it can be converted, but it is not a spreadsheet. For a readable record of one machine, export its service history PDF.

Subscriptions and purchases

How much does IronLog cost?

IronLog Pro is $19.99 a year, or $2.99 a month. Prices shown here are in US dollars; the App Store shows the price for your country before you confirm.

Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

Pricing

Is there a free version?

No. Everything in IronLog is part of IronLog Pro, and the app needs an active subscription to use.

How do I restore my purchase on a new or reset iPhone?

Make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the Apple ID you subscribed with. Then tap Restore on the subscription screen, or open the Settings tab and tap Restore purchases under Subscription.

There is no IronLog account to sign in to: your subscription belongs to your Apple ID. Restoring brings back the subscription, not your records. To move records, use Export data and Import data.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Apple bills and manages the subscription. In IronLog, open the Settings tab and tap Manage Subscription, or in the iPhone Settings app tap your name, then Subscriptions, then IronLog, then Cancel Subscription. Deleting the app does not cancel it.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. After cancelling, you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.

Can I get a refund?

Apple handles every payment for IronLog, so refunds are requested from Apple. We cannot issue them.

Data and privacy

What leaves my iPhone?

Two things. If IronLog crashes, a crash report goes to Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service, with technical details such as the device model, iOS version and app version. IronLog does not put your equipment records in crash reports.

And if you send us feedback from the app or from this page, we receive what you type, the email address if you give one, and, from the app, its version plus your device model, iOS version and language setting. Your equipment, hours, service records and photos are never uploaded.

Privacy policy

Does IronLog track me or show ads?

No. IronLog has no ads, no advertising or analytics SDKs, no account and no tracking across apps or websites. The only third-party code in the app is Firebase Crashlytics, for crash reports. This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.

Deleting your data

How do I delete a machine?

Open the machine, tap the ••• menu, choose Delete equipment and confirm. That removes the machine and its engines, hour readings, maintenance tasks, service records and documents from the iPhone, and cancels its reminders. It cannot be undone, so export a backup first if you might want the records later.

How do I delete everything?

Delete the IronLog app from your iPhone. That removes every record stored in it. Copies can remain in backup files you exported and in your iPhone's own backups until you delete those too. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.

How do I delete messages I sent you?

Send a request through the contact form below, using the same email address as your earlier message if you gave one, and we will delete your feedback messages. Crash reports are not linked to your name or email, and Google deletes them after 90 days.

Questions, problems and ideas all come to the same place. From inside the app, Send Feedback in the Settings tab works too, and adds your app version and device model so we can reproduce problems. For billing and refunds, Apple handles payments: see refunds.

So we can reply. We use it for nothing else.
